PAT testing or portable appliance testing is an important part of any health & safety policy. The Electricity at Work Regulations place a legal responsibility on employers, employees and self-employed persons to comply with the provisions of the regulations and take reasonably practicable steps to ensure that no danger results from the use of such equipment. This in effect requires the implementation of a systematic and regular program of maintenance, inspection and testing. The Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) places such an obligation in the following circumstances:
1. Where appliances are used by employees.
2. Where the public may use appliances in establishments such as hospitals, schools, hotels, shops etc.
3. Where appliances are supplied or hired.
4. Where appliances are repaired or serviced.
Further more it is customary for Public/Employers Liability Insurance providers to include a clause in their terms and conditions which would exonerate them from any responsibility for compensation should there be injury of shock, burns or fire to persons, property and live stock caused by faulty equipment which has not been tested and provided with a pass certificate.
At ElecTest UK Ltd, we provide a simple and cost effective solution, enabling all companies & organisations to comply with the Electricity at Work Regulations in regards to PAT Testing.
Each appliance is comprehensively tested to meet the exacting requirements of the IEE code of practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. The inspection and testing will be carried out by a fully qualified electrical testing engineer. We use the latest computerised PAT testing equipment and are able to test all portable appliances in your company including - IT equipment, kitchen equipment and personal equipment such as radio’s and mobile phone chargers. In short any piece of equipment which has a standard mains 13A plug or 110Volt plug should be subject to the PAT Test.
On completion of the testing you will be issued with a safety certificate and a detailed report that provides information on each individual item. All items that pass the inspection & testing will be labelled with a safety sticker and a unique barcode number that helps us keep track of all portable appliances in your company.
Minor faults found during the course of the inspection can be repaired as we find them and the appliance re-tested without any extra charge. More serious faults will always be quoted for first. All minor repairs are carried out free of charge, including the following:
•Replacement of damaged or incorrectly rated fuses
•Re-wiring of incorrect connections in the mains plug
•Repair to faulty cable grips in the mains plug
•Minor repairs requiring less than ten minutes labour
•Re-test following repair
